one HOT week!
As the hottest week (92 degrees) EVERY day ends, so does the first week on my journey.
I believe this was the training week. I learned alot in terms of how the best way to communicate, transportation systems etc. (Still more stories on that, but I will save for when I’m back)
It’s interesting some people speak to you only in Italian and others start out in English. I personally prefer to be spoken to in Italian, since I’m in the process of learning the language.
I’ve also found pointing and playing charades goes along way LOL. I will say what little Italian I did manage to get under my belt has helped me quite a bit.
I believed I have walked 70 percent of Firenze aka Florence. Each day I thought I had covered it, and I discovered another side.
I’ve also been here long enough to start seeing regulars on the street. It’s kinda funny. This place reminds me of Chicago in that way.
The food is great for pasta lovers, not so great for non pasta lovers. I still haven’t found anyone to beat the place in Venice. The funny thing is that you can spend a little and get the best and a lot and get the worst. It truly is hit or miss.
I will say that I’m glad I do not have a sweet tooth, because I would be at the Gelato stands on a regular basis, which by the way are on every corner. It’s crazy. I think there are more Gelato stands than restaraunts.
Gelato was not for me. I’m sure I’ll have my moments just like I do with ice cream, but nothing like a daily fix. Popcorn on the other hand?
Yesterday, I decided I would have a little picnic. I grabbed the large towel from the hotel and had planned to sit in the park that I discovered when I was lost, but couldn’t find it. How ironic. LOL
Oh, well, luckily you can buy beer and just walk around and drink at your leisure. On a hot day, sounded good to me. With camera in hand, I bought a little 3 pack and toured the city that way. Good stuff.
I can honestly say that just walking around without a map or gps allowed me to discover and then discover. I’m not sure why everyones head was always down in the map. There is plenty to see when you look up. :)
next stop….ROME!
